THE superstitious will perhaps wonder whether Jacqueline “Jackie” Moyo is haunted by the ghost of her slain husband Tawanda “MaPecca” Moyo after she allegedly tried to commit suicide before being revived at Mpilo Central Hospital.

Former Siyaya member MaPecca, regarded in his lifetime as one of the city’s most talented artistes, lost his life last year after getting shot by prominent city malayitsha and fast food outlet owner Oricious “Oros” Moyo who he accused of having an affair with Jackie.

The events of the fateful night on July 25 are still before the courts. While those involved and the public wait for the courts to render their verdict on the contentious issue, MaPecca told Sunday Life a few days before his death who he believed was responsible for his ultimately fatal injuries.

As he lay on his hospital bed before allegedly succumbing to septic shock, septic laceration, gunshot wounds and assault, MaPecca had narrated his own side of events leading up to his fatal injury, disputing Oros’ allegation that he had tried to rob him.

At that point, his wife was not even allowed to visit her ailing husband in hospital by some relatives, with a marriage that had bore three children seemingly in tatters. Now almost a year later, life seems to be less than rosy for the widowed Jackie.

According to a source close to her, she tried to take her life last month.

“We suspect she took poison. At first they rushed her to a 24-hour clinic but her condition continued to deteriorate and she was then taken to Mpilo Hospital,” the source said.

A worker at Mpilo Hospital who spoke to Sunday Life on condition of anonymity confirmed that she had indeed been treated at the hospital.

“Yes, I can confirm that we had such a patient,” the worker said.

The reasons behind her alleged suicide attempt are still largely a matter of speculation.

Contacted for comment, a member of MaPecca’s family said that they did not want anything to do with Jackie and were prepared to accept whatever fate befell her. No attempts at reconciliation had been made since MaPecca’s death at the age of 43 in August last year.

“What I can say is that we don’t care what happens to her,” the family member said.

Efforts to contact Jackie were fruitless. Like events that preceded it, MaPecca’s burial was filled with drama, with his family vowing to seek alternative ways of justice.

On the morning of his burial at Lady Stanley, his family took his body to the business premises of Oros’ food outlet in the city centre, saying it was part of “rituals” to ensure justice prevailed.

There was a brief traffic jam at the food outlet when MaPecca’s relatives removed the coffin from the hearse and placed it at the front of the shop. There were even suggestions to dump the coffin at the shop but it was later agreed that MaPecca deserved a decent burial despite his tragic death.
