Celebrate the small wins

AS the year comes to an end, we have a tendency of looking back at the year and frown at our resolutions list that has other things that have not been ticked off.

Do we ever pause to think about the things that went right even though there are things that are not so pleasant that we went through? A lot of us are fixated on everything that is wrong and we do not appreciate what went right.

Appreciation
It’s a whole new world of bliss.

Imagine if we could wake up in the morning and go on an appreciation diet, appreciate that you are alive, appreciate the bed that you slept in, the comfortable linen, all the stuff that is at your disposal to get ready for work or school or whatever it is that you do.

Then appreciate breakfast, the service providers like your city council for the water, your electricity, internet and other service providers and as you drive to work feel grateful for the transport that takes you there and for other road users for their cooperation.

Someone is about to say, “but there are crazy drivers out there”, well, there are also good drivers out there, you just don’t appreciate them enough.

Be biased towards good
A friend of mine once told me that a lot of people give up on relationships because they choose to focus on the weaknesses of their partners.

Your partner has good traits too, did you ever think to focus on that instead of the bad stuff? Imagine how she or he would react to that.

It seems a lot of people are inclined towards picking faults instead of noticing the good.

How many companies reward their workers with words like “good job” more often than they pick out their errors.

For every error that someone makes there are probably a whole lot of stuff the worker does that is excellent but no one pays much attention to that.

They only give attention when things go wrong.

Patting someone on the back for a good job, even if it’s not extraordinary makes the person eager to do more.

It’s such a morale booster that when you do it often you won’t have to push your staff around, you might be surprised at the initiative that they take without being instructed to.

No one is immune to that good feeling from being told you have done well.

It’s just wow, and you wanna hear more of it often.

This is why most companies throw Christmas parties for their workers and some offer awards to reward good work.

It works to keep the hype and hard work and also to keep the relationship between the employer and employee good.

Appreciation attracts more

If you are grateful for good health, wealth and you appreciate relationships you have with other people you will get more of that. If you stay focused on one health issue instead of appreciating a lot of good health you are enjoying in the rest of your body that will just suck the happiness out of you and guess what happens when you are more unhappy than you are happy, you are likely to get an illness.

A negative mindset is the fastest way to bad health.

So why choose that when you can choose a positive mindset and all that comes with it.

Have you ever looked at beautiful scenery and noted how that boosts your mood? This is essentially why we go for getaways, hideaways and vacations, to focus on good things.

We come back refreshed and we think it’s because of the fresh air and environment.

Not really, it’s because of our attitude more than anything, but if we drag our sulking selves to that outing nothing will make us enjoy it.

How about we approach every aspect of our lives like we do vacations and holidays, expecting them to be refreshing, fun and beneficial.

Yes, even if it’s your job why shouldn’t you have fun doing it?

While life happens to us how we interpret what happens to us and decide how we feel about it and consequently how we react to it is of utmost importance.

With the right attitude our lives can be better.

Let’s celebrate wins, no matter how small, let’s appreciate that which is within our grasp, rather than harp on that which isn’t in our lives.

Let’s realise how rich we are with what we have and stop assuming that we are poor because we do not have as much as other people do.

Let us learn to celebrate other people’s success.

Their success should be a reason for you to believe that you can be successful too.

If you are ticked off by someone who is doing well or you are jealous and envious then you should know that your success is still far off.

As we round off the year, remember to be grateful for everything and expect a better year next year.

Be excited about the future, about the possibility of excelling.
