A BULAWAYO whizkid aced her Cambridge GCSE Ordinary Level examinations coming out tops in the whole of Zimbabwe in Physical Science and Business Studies.

Mitchelle Reid, who is now a Lower Six student at Speciss College in the city passed all her seven subjects with A*, topping the country in the two subjects. An A* is given when a student gets 90 percent and above. Speciss College officials revealed the student got 97 percent for Physical Science and 94 percent for Business studies.

Speaking at a mini-ceremony to celebrate their best performing students, the school’s Bulawayo campus director, Mr Robert Whitley said for a school that was non-selective in terms of enrolment the outcome was exciting for them.

“Our school is unique in the sense that we are non-selective in our enrolment, we take every student without discrimination hence for us to achieve such a feat is quite exciting and encourages us to push even further in terms of producing such results,” said Mr Whitley.

Speaking on her achievements, Reid gave gratitude to her teachers and parents saying they had constantly pushed her to be a better person and excel in her examinations.

“I am extremely grateful to be honoured with this award but it is not due to my self-effort alone, so I would like to thank my tutors and parents who up to this day are continuously pushing me to be the best. Secondly I would like to share with you advice on how to pass your exams, each one of us has come across an article on how to best study but each one of us must realise we are all unique, what works for your friend might not work for you, so through trial and error we must all discover what works for us,” she said.

Reid said the secret to excelling was self-motivation, which she noted was a skill that would also come in handy when they became adults.

Speciss College High School director, Mrs Anastasia Moyo said what excited them was that Reid had made the accomplishments during the difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic where students had to endure with online lessons.
