The Bulawayo Social Soccer League (BSSL)second-half of the season has produced a lot of exciting and intriguing results.
The season is full of spills and drama, and has resulted in positions at the top of the log changing many times across all the three Pools. In Pool A, Old Timers of Pumula were the pacesetters from the onset, a situation that resulted in them sitting at the apex of the log table for a decent period.
However, towards the halfway mark disaster struck, they started firing blanks, in turn handing over the initiative to the chasing pack. Old Timers vice chairman Sandram Phiri said a number of back-to-back encounters against the heavy weights of the league is the reason why they went off course.
“We are trying to take one game at a time like what we did in the first-half of the season. We are now sitting at position six as a result of dropping points when playing against the so called big guns of the league. Our last and first five back-to-back games were very tough and we got only a point from Stars but we are trying to regroup during our next game,” he said.
When asked what their expectations were at the end the season, the Old Timers official said they are targeting to finish among the top five.
“We will fight hard so that at the end the season we finish among the top five teams in our Pool,” he added.
At a time when the then log leaders were firing blanks, Man U of Emakhandeni took advantage of their loss of momentum and moved in to occupy the top spot. However, this was only for a while before their sworn rivals Glenkara pushed them off the apex.
A similar scenario happened in the other Pools. Ever improving 94 Strivers started on a high note winning a number of games on the trot moving to the top in the process.
They too lost form like Timers leaving space at the top for other title contenders. Teams that found time to enjoy the sunshine up there are Emganwini Legends as well as Ndola. At the time of writing police outfit West Comm were the log leaders after Ndola lost a number of crucial matches.
In Pool C youthful Finance are still the team to beat. At the end of the seasons winners from the three Pools with be paired against each other to determine the overall league champions.
