THE Squash Rackets Association of Zimbabwe (SRAZ) is set to host the 2023 World Squash Federation (WSF) level one coaching course in March and April.

The event will take place from 31 March to 2 April at St John’s College in Harare. Liz Mackenzie will be the course facilitator. SRAZ chairman and Squash Federation of Africa (SFA) president Lucky Mlilo said there has been good response to the workshop with coaches from Zambia, Malawi, Kenya and Zanzibar registering for the course. Registration for the course is pegged at US$50.

“Only 20 participants will be hosted as it will be an exclusive course and the facilitator cannot take more than that because only four courts will be used for practical sessions during the workshop. This will not be the first for Zimbabwe as the country has hosted the course before under the late South African coach, Graham Prior,” he said.

Mlilo, who was voted SFA president in 2021 said hosting such a high-status event in Zimbabwe is huge and it will also spread out to other parts of the continent not only Southern Africa.

“Hosting this prestigious programme is an honour and privilege to the country. The Squash Federation of Africa will be hosting this programme in East, West and North Africa. We are thrilled that we will host coaches from Zambia, Malawi, Kenya and Zanzibar who want to be part of this World Squash Federation certification programme,” he said.

Last year, Zimbabwe hosted the 2022 Senior Championships in Bulawayo across four different venues which was the first of its kind in years much to the pleasure of WSF who congratulated SFA on a job well done. During the championships, powerhouse Egypt proved why they are a force to reckon with in the sport winning both the men and women’s events in the teams’ section. The North African won
both the matches against South Africa to secure gold.

The Egyptians went on to dominate the individuals’ side of the tournament, once again winning both the men’s and women’s accolades. Both finals were contested by Egyptian players.
