ZIMBABWE senior women’s national team captain, Mary-Anne Musonda is set to take part in Cricket Ireland’s 2023 Women Super Series tournament which is scheduled to start tomorrow.

Musonda will be part of the Scorchers team and will be taking part in her second international club cricket tournament after taking part in the FairBreak Invitational T20 Tournament in Hong Kong.

The right handed 31-year-old batter is in Thailand with the national team where they were playing in their first international series of the year. The series comprised three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and four T20Is.

The upcoming tournament is the premier domestic women’s cricket competition in Ireland. The tournament will feature three representative teams, the Dragons, Scorchers, and Typhoons, who will compete for the Super 50 Cup and the Super T20 Trophy in the 50-over and 20-over competitions, respectively.

Musonda was part of the six overseas international players that were announced by Cricket Ireland as part of this year’s edition of the event. The other five international stars are South African Robyn Searle, Polly Inglis from New Zealand, Jaimie Lee Strang from Australia, and Bella Armstrong from New Zealand.

Scorchers will open their campaign tomorrow against Dragons, which will be their first match of the season at The Village in Malahide. The Scorchers are set to have a new head coach for 2023 after Glenn Querl moved to a full-time role with the Ireland Women’s senior and pathway set-up. They will be led by captain Gaby Lewis.

The right-hand batter made her international ODI debut against Ireland in 2021, where she scored a century (103 runs not out), as she became only the sixth woman to score a century on her ODI debut, and the first Zimbabwean Women’s cricketer to notch up an International century.
