IN a bid to appreciate the role played by husbands in their marriages, a surprise appreciation dinner was held in their honour on 22 September at the ZITF tea room.
The Surprise Husbands Appreciation Dinner, a black-tie event, was the first of its kind, marking a sharp deviation from tradition, as men are rarely appreciated in such a manner.
The event was hosted by Kudakwashe Moyo.
The event was held with the realisation that, as people show appreciation for mothers, fathers, the girl child and women on some days on the calendar, people rarely ever show the same level of their appreciation for husbands. This event was to break from that norm and showcase ladies’ appreciation for their husbands.

“Seeing happy couples inspired me to have this function. Men are sometimes forgotten just like how many focus on the girl child and sometimes over look challenges that the boy child may face. So basically, I wanted to make the men feel appreciated for the different roles they play in their homes.”
Since it was a surprise, the ladies’ husbands did not know what event exactly they were going to, hence they only found out when they got to the venue that it was actually a dinner to appreciate them.
The ladies were required to get their husbands a surprise gift to present to them during the dinner.
“This is a Surprise Husbands Appreciation Dinner. I’d want to have us appreciate the men in your homes in style and hence we have this dinner for them”, said Moyo.
Thabisa Sibanda who is an advocate, was the guest at the event and he shed some light on marriage and conflict resolution. Moyo said that the event was going to be an annual event. It is going to be held twice every year. For the launch of the event, 10 couples took part.
