IN an outstanding accomplishment for someone so young, 12-year-old Wayne Dumani has already accomplished something great by authoring two books.

Dumani’s first book, titled “Sipho the Detective,” was published in December of last year. The story revolves around a young boy who fearlessly follows his dreams, ultimately passing on his legacy to his daughter as she grows older. According to Dumani, the inspiring message behind the book is to encourage readers to never give up and always follow their dreams.
Building on this, Dumani is anticipating the publication of his second book, The Adventures of Clay boy, which is planned to be released  this year. The story revolves around a young boy’s desire to make a positive impact in his community but finds himself embarking on an exciting journey filled with life’s adventures.

“The underlying message behind my book is to encourage readers to have fun and pursue their passions, as long as their actions have a positive impact,” he said.

When asked about his inspiration, Dumani credits Jeff Kinney, the author of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series. His mother, Cathrine Maketo, attests that Dumani’s talent for writing was inborn and something he has always been passionate about.

“Wayne loves writing, it’s something he was born with.  His journey began in Grade 4 when he started writing lengthy composition stories. He would write a three-page composition when he was required to write just a page. His teacher recognised his potential and encouraged him to write a book, I bought him a rough book and he would write his stories there,” she added.

Not only is Dumani focused on his writing career, but he also aspires to be a multi-tasker.

“I plan not only to be a writer but a multi-tasker, doing different things at the same time. I do hope to publish more books in future,” he said.

His published book has gained attention especially among children. They are enjoyed by his peers at school in Cowdry Park Primary School, Bulawayo, where he is doing his Grade Seven as well as outside the school.
Dumani is mentored by author Ike Mthandazo Dube. His journey as a writer continues to unfold, with a promising future ahead. Advising young people like him who aspire to be authors, Dumani said, “Follow your dreams and first think about what you want to do.”

With his love and dedication for writing, Dumani is undoubtedly a growing star in the literary world.
