Prophet Chiza

Kudzai Mpangi, Sunday Life Reporter
AFTER he recently launched his book, Dr Prophet Blessing Chiza, founder of Eagle Life Ministries has proven that he is a doer of his word as his long awaited movie — Accusations premiered last week at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

The movie was written by Dr Prophet Chiza and directed by a seasoned scriptwriter Shadreck Chaparadza Mukumba.

The movie is about a young pastor who has just been ordained and most of the elders are jealous that the post has been given to a young preacher. The elders plan to cause his dismissal and downfall, they accuse the young pastor of doing gimmicks at church. They go to the extent of bribing a church member to pretend that the pastor raped her.

The movie is a two-part movie in which part two is full of action and surprises. It is also a fusion of music and scriptures which also encompass comics, so to make the audience feel light hearted while watching.

Speaking in an interview, Dr Prophet Chiza said his visits to courts and prisons inspired him to come up with such a movie which bears lessons for fellow brethrens in churches.

“I came up with this production after counselling many pastors, some in prisons and some in courts who got into trouble because of accusations. I noticed that most men of the cloth are just put into trouble because of accusations that are easily accepted without taking proper channels in investigating the issue.

“So my message in this movie to people is that let us not just believe every allegation levelled against men of God and take advantage of their office without using biblical standards on how to go about it. The Bible says do not entertain accusations against a man of God without two or three witnesses (1Timothy 5v17-19),” he said.

Dr Prophet Chiza described the movie premiere as a success.

“We are happy about the attendance. It was the best of all our launches so far of artistic works and as Eagle life productions we would like to thank all the people for the support that they gave and showed to us especially our scriptwriter and editors who agreed to working with us,” he said.

The movie is set to be released on the national television as well as on DStv on Africa Magic.

“The movie industry is going to be paying and soon we will be producing standard movies just like Nigeria and we are targeting on starting from home then they will be aired on DStv,” he said.

Kadder

Bhekumuzi Ncube, Sunday Life Reporter
SIXTEEN Days of Activism against gender-based violence commenced across the globe last week in an attempt to galvanise and electrify action to end violence against women across the globe.

Prominent female artistes have since joined millions of women in the campaign against gender-based prejudices and among them is the sensational Bulawayo Kwaito star, Proficience Kadder.

Popularly known as Kadder in arts circles, the Kwaito queen has criticised patriarchal tendencies and gender stereotypes, which have often left women in great despair and disillusionment in a society.

“The modern society has often valued and taken into consideration men’s views only. Its high time that women’s views are taken seriously. Women need to be respected. They have brains similar to that of men; they have innovative plans that can make the world change for the better. It’s very shocking that there are still men out there who still view women as objects and housewife material. The world needs to know that women are not vulnerable people that men can abuse whenever they feel like. Men need to treat women like queens for them to be treated like kings also,” she said.

Kadder who saw her single Dlala Bek’bone featuring Khoi Khoi stay on the ZiFM Top 10 for 19 weeks said the majority of women are physical and sexually abused by men who still believe they are superior to women.

“Millions of women across the globe are suspected to be violated by men and in most cases, those crimes are not reported as women might be threatened by their abusers. I urge every woman to stand up against abusive social constraints and seek help whenever they feel like their rights are being abused. Staying quiet will not solve their problems but it will increase the dangers of them being continuously abused,” she said.

The former Amakorokoza actress has since taken her Facebook page as a weapon to expose women’s meagre successes and losses in a society overshadowed by biased gender beliefs.

She said her online campaign seeks to spread awareness against gender-based mistreatments.

“The main objective of the campaign is to empower violated women so that they can rebuild their lives. I want to enlighten society on the effects of abuse and not speaking out. I look foward to a society which encourages abused women and children to seek justice and closure instead of protecting perpetrators especially in remote and rural areas. Each day I will upload a poster on my online accounts in a quest to create awareness against gender-based violence,” she said.

Fashion versus style

eye of fashion new vs style

Rutendo Chidawanyika

FASHION is all about personal style, taste, comfort and sometimes it’s unfair for people to judge you on what you are wearing on the day, when you know exactly that you didn’t feel like dressing up and looking like a runway model, showcasing some designs. Maybe you had a bad day and just didn’t feel like making a statement on the day. It’s totally normal to have a wardrobe malfunction at times, you’re not alone.

Each year we look at the next trends for the new season, what’s in/out, what’s happening. But sometimes we get totally freaked out with some of the designs we see on the runway, and we wonder how it will look on us, whether one can wear it or not, such as the plastic trend or the naked jeans. The truth is you are the judge of what works for you and how you will look in that particular item. Most designers are fashion forward and futuristic, so what we see on the ramp might not even be something that is in the market at the moment.

The separation between fashion and style may seem obvious to some people. Still it’s not always easy to tell the difference since they are cut from the same cloth. You wear clothes everyday and most of the time you don’t think is this stylish or is this fashionable? It seems those thoughts only come to mind when you have to look your best. The funny thing about fashion and style, one comes out when you know others are looking, the other is always there.

You hear people say your style or my style, what you don’t often hear is your fashion or my fashion. That is because fashion has nothing to do with the individual or personal taste. It’s about matching trends quickly and frequently. Fashion fades fast! Retail stores switch their stockpiles every two weeks to a month depending on how the merchandise is doing. Realistically, fashion requires a robust time commitment and threshold of wealth to keep up with. To be fashionable you constantly have to look at magazines and runways across all spectrums of clothes, accessories, and grooming. Its shifting requires the same shift from your closet and look. Fashion is based on random, temporal trends. Due to the changing nature of the industry, fashion is less powerful because it’s impermanent. To be considered fashionable means you need to quickly interpret the influence of those who decide what is in from what is out.

Style is how you put your clothes together. It can be unique or describe a general genre. Mostly, style is reflective of how various factors such as culture, politics, religion, the weather, your upbringing, etc, mould you as a person. Style is a form of self-identity. It needs you to be very organised as it takes months to years to develop. Your style can absolutely change as time goes on, but there’s a singular thread that stays rooted within what you wear or more accurately how you wear things that is intimately tied with you as a person. You might update your style from wearing A-line skirts to pencil skirts, but they both can still be conservative skirts. So that thread would be the conservative aspect.

So what is the difference between fashion and style in simple terms? Style is your lifestyle or personality while fashion is impulsive. Style is you.

Fashion is an industry. To be fashionable you have to live up to other people’s expectations. With style you’re only living up to your own. Its crazy when you think about how much influence fashion has and what dictates the waves of the fashion world. We are told by those in the industry that it’s decided by a bunch of influential people what’s in from what’s out. There’s a perception that magazine editors, fashion designers, or even fashion houses seem to want to just push expensive items, causing fashion to feel more deceitful and meaningless. This is probably true for some and not for others. There certainly is a mean girl aspect to fashion where you either have it or you don’t; you’re either fashionable or you’re not.

Fashion relies upon certain people “having it”. So it’s not so much that it’s fake, rather it’s purposefully exclusive because it needs to be. Style on the other hand, is something you always have because it’s personal. Eyes are the window to your soul and style is the door to your personality. You don’t have to choose to be one or the other because you can stay on the latest trends while having a comprehensive style running in the background. Still, if you do decide to make a conscious decision to follow fashion or build your own style, just remember that the difficulty in being fashionable comes with the need to always buy the latest thing and knowing when to retire the old. It’s hard to be fashionable because fashion never sits still and is costly. The way I see it, if you have style, you never have to worry about fashion. Style means you have your “wardrobe” together. You know how you want your clothes to represent you, what looks good on you, and how to wear it. There’s an air of confidence about it. —Additional information from Online sources.

SHE IS MUCH MORE THAN A PRETTY FACE

Celeste Khumalo

Celeste Khumalo

SOUTH AFRICAN actress Celeste Khumalo’s The Queen comeback has been nothing short of explosive and viewers are in for even more tantalising treats.

After almost a year being off screen, the 25-year-old starlet is back to wreak havoc on the Mzansi Magic telenovela as Shaka’s (Sthembiso “SK” Khoza) devious baby mama Linda.

Fans of the show have already witnessed Linda shake up Shaka’s world with the introduction of her new man Miguel (Wilson Shaddai). But that was only the tip of the iceberg. Next week the courtship will heat up as Linda gets what she has always wanted and Shaka puts a ring on it.

Khumalo promises viewers a roller coaster quickie wedding full of romance, drama and suspense.

“I think it’s one of those weddings that you never get to see on TV. It’s explosive and jam-packed. Every lead actor on the show is going to be involved with all their different personalities in the same room,” she teases.

“I like seeing all my heroes in one room and doing what they do best and learning from them.”

The statuesque former Miss SA Teen, with her glowing complexion and come-hither gaze, says she’s nothing like her conniving on-screen persona.

Happily in a relationship, Khumalo says that when she decides to settle down she will opt for a more cosy and simple nuptial. In fact, when asked by Time Out if she would ever consider an over-the-top shindig like Linda’s, her reply is a big fat “hell no”.

“While filming I remember just saying to SK that weddings are so much work,” she recalls.

“I’m very happy in my relationship. It’s not someone in the entertainment industry. He’s from Swaziland. If we decide to settle down I want a wedding that is nothing like this because there is way too much drama.

“I’d rather not have a wedding than have Linda’s wedding day. For me, getting married goes beyond the white dress.”

The Queen is Khumalo’s break-out acting gig. She has been taking acting lessons to better her craft. As a model, the Sandton stunner has scored an ambassadorship with skin care brand Pond’s. Her 21-year-old younger sister Kutloano Khumalo is also a successful model.

“This is the career path that I’ve chosen. There is a film I’ll be doing next year,” she adds.

Khumalo recently closed her popular beauty salon Republic Nails in Hatfield, Pretoria, to focus all her energy on an acting career.

“My focus was changing and I felt like the business had served its time. I just wanted a change. It’s very easy for anyone to say I’m an entrepreneur, but business is really hard,” she confesses.

At age 18 in 2011, the It-Girl got her first taste of stardom after she was crowned Miss Teen SA – the last one to reign under the title. She obtained a BA in Corporate Communication at Varsity College in 2015. She is busy with her MBA at Regenesys Business School.

“Miss Teen was a very interesting life. I only entered to get the bursary,” she points out.

“Education is something that nobody will ever take away from you. After your looks have faded as a model, a powerful and educated mind will stay with you.

“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m just pretty. I’m more than just a pretty face.

“I will always be Miss SA Teen, that’s certainly not going to change.

“But I’m happy that at this stage in my life people are also recognising me as an actress compared to being a former beauty queen.”— Sowetan.co.za

Mzansi Actress impressed with Plumtree town

Manaka Ranaka

Manaka Ranaka

Kudzai Mpangi, Sunday Life Reporter
PLUMTREE town was a hive of activity as South African actress Manaka Ranaka from Generations: The Legacy was in town for a Family Fun Day that was held at Allan RedFern Primary School last Saturday.

The town, which is well known for hosting local and international artistes, last year held a similar event where Ronnie Nyakale who plays the character Cosmo on Generations was a guest.

Events promoter, Handsome Sibanda said bringing Manaka to Plumtree town was a way of boosting tourism as well as to get sponsors for the arts industry in the border town as they need all the exposure they can get, leading to collaborations with international stars evidenced by the production of movies such as Everyone’s Child.

“I hope after hosting Manaka Ranaka our town will grow and sponsors will start coming through. We want to see our town grow and have all the necessarily equipment to get our arts industry on the map,” Sibanda said.

Sibanda is content with how people welcomed the Mzansi actress.

“Manaka truly loved the town and more so the humbleness of the people. She was impressed with the talent displayed by the kids during the Family Fun Day and said she would definitely come back for it. She was mostly impressed by the rapping abilities of local artiste R.S,” he said.

Speaking to Sunday Life Manaka described Plumtree people as special with humanity within them.

“I have always wished to be referred to by my real name, not my character name because that’s not who I am. The people here are so humble unlike back home when you ask them not to refer you to your character name they adhere. I would like to thank all of them for looking at me in a different way and welcoming me to their town,” Ranaka said.

She guaranteed to come back to Plumtree town as she never experienced such a warm welcome and respect from people.

Manaka shared her vision that one day Africa will be like Hollywood and Africans wouldn’t have to wish to go to Hollywood.

“Instead of going to Hollywood I want to strengthen Africa so that it will be on the map known for its talent and for us not to have dreams of going to Hollywood, I want to make it at home,” she added. The Mzansi actress hopes that her visit will help Plumtree town boost its tourism and the local talent vested in it.

“Since it was my first time coming through I hope that my presence will live a mark and help Plumtree town grow. I also think that people should work together for its tourism and I urge the department of tourism to help the town, that will be a great milestone. Then the people will only bring Manaka to see the talented artistes, not to boost tourism,” Ranaka said.

Plumtree town will be celebrating their Christmas Eve with the famous GP Ma Orange, another Mzansi actor at Plumtree High on 24 December, the tickets are now on sale. — @kayskudzai

Zinhle Zizcky world Ndoro with Mike Ezuruonye

Zinhle Zizcky world Ndoro with Mike Ezuruonye

Rumbidzai Mbewe, Sunday Life Correspondent
EVERYONE knows her as the former wife of the Orlando Pirates and Warriors striker but being recognised by who you were once married to is a thing of the past for bubbly Zinhle Zizcky world Ndoro who is slowly but surely building a career, a life and a name for herself in the entertainment industry.

Known to others as Zizcky world, she told Sunday Life that she is working with one of the most respected and loved Nollywood actor, Mike Ezuruonye in a movie called Tears of a black woman. The movie will feature top South African actors as well as DJs that will be announced in due course.

She plays the lead role, Mama Chichi in the movie of a woman who was married to a poor man who later she helped acquire wealth. The man later on dumps him for another woman and she suffers with the children alone in the village.

“Playing this character got me very emotional because the woman goes through a lot with her three children. I have children and so it easier to play the role of a mother,” she said.

Zinhle said being a hard worker she is, it was not that difficult for her to land a role in the movie as she was recommended by another Nollywood actor she had worked with in the past. The actress said since she is building a name for herself in the entertainment circles it was important for her work to speak for itself so that she gets as much recognition.

“I used to work with Emeka a Nollywood actor who then introduced me to Mike because I am a hardworking and can multi-task if we are having a crisis during the shoot. I have learnt that hard work really pays off good,’ she said.

She said working with Mike was exciting even though some people may think he is a snob and doesn’t get along well with other people because of his popularity and excellence in the Nollywood industry.

“Mike is a very down to earth person with a sense of humour but he likes someone who is time conscious because in this industry you cannot afford to be late as it costs money,” she said.

Besides working in the entertainment industry, Zinhle works at a hospital in South Africa as a hospital matron during the day taking care of the sick, at night she takes off the hospital clothes and puts on the entertainment gear to take care of a different audience.

“I am a multi-tusker and I thank my mother for pushing me to be this hard working person I am. She is the person behind my success and she always reminds me to be the best I can be,” she said.

Currently she is co-ordinating a series that will feature artistes from different countries as part of the anti xenophobia campaign. The feature will bring together artists from different countries so as to fight the abuse and ill-treatment of foreign nationals in South Africa.

Zinhle said her wish was to improve the entertainment industry in Zimbabwe and create platforms for Zimbabwean artistes. -@rumbie_mbewe

Gospel Unplugged

Kudzai Mpangi, Sunday Life Reporter

People living with disabilities thronged Harvest House International Church to witness thriving gospel group, Gospel Unplugged perform on stage last week.

The astounding concert was created to honour people living with disabilities and was organised by the Gospel Unplugged ensemble. It was held under the theme “Aspire to live beyond the challenges”.

In an interview, the group leader and director Sam Chokuda said it was high time they did something big in honour of disabled people to show their worth in society.

“The fact that people with disabilities have suffered greatly because of stereotype and negative unbelief pushed us to do a concert in their honour so that they can feel that they are so much appreciated in the society,” Chokuda said.

“This concert aimed to create a friendly environment for them, for example you find churches, restaurants and other public spaces do not have adequate infrastructure to accommodate them, so we believe that after this concert things will change for the better as Gospel Unplugged seeks to give awareness to the populace of Africa about the importance of people with disabilities,” he added.

Gospel Unplugged has been a blessing for the disabled people as they managed to create awareness not only at grassroots level but on a national level.

“We are so honoured to be given an opportunity to show people within and outside Zimbabwe the proceedings of the show and what we intend to do for people with disabilities. Being on National TV gave us hope that our nation is more than capable of creating a disability friendly environment looking at the support we got from the broadcast team,” Chokuda said.

A ramp was built as the first step in honour of the disabled people.

“We are so much pleased to announce that we have built a ramp at Harvest House International Church as our first step in creating a friendly environment for the disabled people. We want them to feel welcome every time they come to visit at our church,” Chokuda said.

Chokuda also emphasised that support be extended not only to them, but to talented youths who have physical or any form of barrier.

“We would like for people to show love and see the talent that disabled people possess. We believe media cover is a great stepping stone for this to be possible so that the world can see the talents that are showcased by them,” he said.

The disabled people were given a platform to showcase their talents on stage and the audience was impressed by the performances.

“We are so happy that our audience was thrilled to see them perform especially King George Memorial gave forth a beautiful piece and people loved them. The talent that they have is unbelievable and extraordinary. Times like these permit people to view disability issues differently and begin to accept that they are no different from any other person,” he said.

Oscar award winner Prudence Mabhena gave a description of her life through her song that she performed. She was in high spirits to have been given such a prospect.

“Prudence Mabhena’s life is beautiful, the way she sang you could tell that she has accepted who she is. She is one of the pioneers who have embraced who they are and how she is equally the same with everyone else regardless of what people think. Her performance was soul filling and beautiful. She was so much celebrated by the audience as they loved her work,” he said.

A motivational speech was given by Soneni Gwizi, a motivational speaker, radio presenter and disability activist.

“Soneni Gwizi has often made it a point that when she speaks, she sets a standard and creates a huge impact in people’s line of thinking. Her speech was exceptional and more demonstrative for people to understand disability issues. From the look of it, it seems people were thrilled to learn and understand more on disability, something that not many people are privileged to hear. She also expressed how she was honoured to have been invited to speak in such a big event for them,” Chokuda said.

Chokuda said they are going to be incorporating a few students from King George within their musical group to nature their talent, learn from them.
“It is in our desire that we at least pay fees for one of the talented students in a bid to help them pursue their desire career. The concert we had wasn’t the end of the journey, it was just the beginning as we are yet to do more for disabled people,” he said.

Gospel Unplugged will be releasing an annual magazine that will give full detail on their events that they will be doing in honour of disabled people.

Pastor Barak

Bhekumuzi Ncube, Sunday Life Reporter
EXPECTATIONS were high, the venue was packed and the sound system was on point when Bulawayo gospel darling Siphethangani Sibanda popularly known as Pastor Barak launched his second album titled Yimi Lo.

The extraordinary album launch which left people dumbfounded at the excellent work of the gospel muso took place at Monte Carlo Centre last week.
Perhaps to prove that he is the most followed gospel sensation, Pastor Barak had former Minister Godern Moyo and Bulawayo mayor Martin Moyo as guests who later joined him on the dance floor.

In a bid to lighten up the mood and turn the event into something special, the gospel household hired Skyz Metro FM DJ Manessi “MaMlevu” Ndlovu to be the master of ceremony.

Pastor Barak, in his grey suit, made a grand entrance and was welcomed by screaming and jumping people as he walked majestically on the red carpet looking ready to deliver.

The album is nothing but a scintillating and well cooked project that will help the talented superstar maintain his status as one of Bulawayo’s top solo gospel artistes.

The album has six powerful songs with messages of loyalty and praising God. The names of the songs are UJesu Wami, Akekho Ongavala, Yimi, Sizowanyathela Amadimoni, Anochengeta, Yehla Moya.

He said the album launch had surpassed his expectations and he is thankful to everyone who attended.

“Honestly I did not expect such a turnout. It’s every artiste’s dream pull out such a massive number to attend your event. To everyone who took their time to come and witness the launch I am forever grateful,” he said.

Pastor Barak also known as “Speta” is a man of God in a prophetic and deliverance ministry called Full Gospel International ministries. His first album Jerusalem which he recorded in 2007 and it was well received.

He said he hoped this album will benefit him to keep on producing more.

“My debut album was not presented at radio stations because the years 2007 and 2008 were tough times in Zimbabwe economically. However, for this album, the songs are already being played on ZBC stations and on Skyz Metro FM,” he said.

He said he has been a music lover since he was young.

“Music and I are two sides of the same coin. I have been involved in music for quite some time now. I have written and sung songs with many groups. Many people know me for the charitable deeds I have done for communities such as helping street kids with food and clothing,” he said.

He thanked the two guests of honour for making it to the launch.

“The presence of Godern Moyo and the mayor, and their dancing moments gave the event the hype that was needed as people started screaming in excitement. I want to thank you for making my dream of this album launch a tremendous success,” he said.

Skyz Metro FM gospel nominee Reward Judah was also present to witness his counterpart wow delegates.

Speaking on the sidelines, Moyo said he had seen the talent of Pastor Barak when he was in Grade Two. The album was bought at special prices ranging from $100 to $130 from its original price of $5.

Hi Sis Noe
HOW long after having sex do I have to take the morning after pill? — Worried.

Reply
Also known as emergency contraception (EC), the morning after pill contains a high dose of hormones that help to prevent pregnancy soon after sex. Research suggests that while it’s recommended that EC is taken within 72 hours, it’s moderately effective up to 120 hours, dependent on the formula that’s used. Emergency contraception is often referred to as the “morning after pill,” but the sun doesn’t have to come up for it to be taken. In fact, the general consensus is that for most formulations, the sooner it’s taken, the more effective it is. Currently, there are some options on the market, both over-the-counter and by prescription, to protect against unintended pregnancy for those that had contraceptive method fail or had unprotected sex.

Hi Sis Noe
My boyfriend is a virgin but I am not. I don’t know if I should tell him that I am not a virgin. — Worried.

Reply
Choosing what to tell a new potential partner can be a tough decision. While it’s not dishonest to withhold this information, it’s likely to make conversations about yours and your partner’s past trickier. Before engaging in sexual activities with a new partner, it’s helpful to talk with each other about your sexual histories and preferences to make sure you are both on the same page. During these discussions, you may learn that you have each had experience with some sexual activities but not with others. It’s also worth considering that being able to talk with a potential partner about these topics may be a sign of your comfort level or readiness to have sex with that person.

Hi Sis Noe
My semen is now thick and porridge like. It used to be watery. Is something wrong with me? — Worried.

Reply
There is no need to stress — this phenomenon is not as sticky as it might seem. Chunky or clumpy semen is normal and probably is not a symptom of a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Semen (a.k.a. cum, ejaculate) can vary in texture, odour, colour, and taste. While biology causes most differences among men, factors such as temperature, physical activity, diet, and recent ejaculations also may have an effect. Semen can also change in consistency and appearance in the minutes after leaving the penis. However, if you notice other symptoms along with a change in the semen you may consider talking with a health care provider.

Hi Sis Noe
I had genital warts a year ago but I got treated and I no longer have it. I was wondering should I tell my future sexual partner or partners that I once had it. I told my ex about it and we had sex using a condom but our relationship did not last. — Worried.

Reply
You pose an interesting and complicated question. While you are right that warts infection may be treated or clear on its own, it’s hard to know for sure if it’s truly gone. Using a condom during sex can definitely reduce the risk of passing warts to your partner(s), but it’s not guaranteed. For this reason, honesty is always important in any type of sexual relationship. Honest communication is crucial to relationships, even casual ones, and talking about warts could reduce the stigma surrounding this extremely common sexually transmitted infection (STI). Along the same lines, opening up a discussion about your sexual health history may prompt your partner to do the same. Talking with your partner(s) could also be a learning opportunity — for example, maybe he doesn’t know about the vaccines Gardasil and Cervarix which can protect both men and women against several HPV strains. Also, having an open conversation might end up being a stress reliever for your partner(s) — nearly all sexually active adults have had at least one type of HPV at some point in their lives.

Hi Sis Noe
Every time after I have sex I have a feeling that I must go to the toilet. Is this normal? — Worried.

There are many different types of sexual activities that can lead a person to feel like he or she needs to take a bathroom break. Some types of sex may actually make a person feel like she or he had an accident in the bed. Others can actually increase that “go-to-the-toilet” feeling. It most happens when you get a G-spot orgasm. This highly intense form of orgasm happens when a particular area of the vagina is sufficiently stimulated. Emptying your bladder before sex can usually help reassure yourself that you are not urinating. Other explanations for the urge to urinate could be pressure on the bladder externally from certain sexual positions or vaginal penetration at certain angles, which could also put pressure on the bladder. If you are trying to avoid this full-bladder feeling, completely emptying it right before sex could help reassure you that an accident won’t happen while you are getting it on. Of course, if it does, know that urine is sterile.

Hi Sis Noe
When I have sex with my boyfriend the condom keeps slipping off and it turns me off. It frustrates me. — Help.

Reply
A condom that continuously slip-slides away can be frustrating especially if it keeps killing the mood. Fortunately there are a few things you can troubleshoot to get to the root of the problem. First off, next time your partner puts on a condom you might want to check the fit. Is the condom snug around the shaft of the penis? Did your boyfriend roll the condom down all of the way? Is there extra latex hanging or bunched up? They don’t call it a love glove for nothing; the condom should not slide around on him while he is sliding around in you, so make sure it fits like a glove. Keep in mind that brands and styles of condoms are varied.

Perhaps sampling a few to see which ones provides a better fit may be helpful, and fun. Another thing to consider is your position during sex. Have you noticed that the condom escapes only when you and your partner are in certain positions? If he were on his back when you make love, for example, would the condom be less likely to come off? Trying a number of positions to see what keeps the condom in place may not only help you diagnose the problem; it could spice up your routine as well.

Condoms are made to fit tightly on an erect penis, so another thing to check is whether your boyfriend is keeping his erection during sex. Erections can come and go (perfectly normal, by the way); if this is the case, the condom may loosen its grip and slip off. A smaller sized condom may be appropriate so that he doesn’t slip out during a lull in erection. Saying and doing things that will maintain arousal during sex may also help in this situation. Lastly, although it can be challenging to talk about this stuff, the best way to figure out what is going on with your boyfriend down there may be asking him what he thinks is causing the problem. It’s possible that he knows what the difficulty is, but is embarrassed to tell you, or assumes you already know. Never underestimate the power of open, honest communication.

FOR many disabled people, having a disability means they cannot be adventurous, they cannot explore the world as well as create lasting happy memories with wonderful deeds.

They believe their role in society is only watching others develop and succeed in life while they are sitting as mere spectators.

However, to Prudence Mabhena that was not the case when she pursued her music career by forming a group called Liyana which comprised eight disabled people, a group that went on to bag an Oscar award before it disbanded.

The hardworking and ambitious artiste has defied all odds by being the most celebrated disabled celebrity in Zimbabwe who has scooped many accolades during her touching career.

Her blissful career has not gone unnoticed as in 2013, Roger Ross Williams created a documentary about Prudence and her Liyana group dubbed Music by Prudence. The documentary went on to bag an Oscar award at an event in Los Angeles.

Well, she is not done sharing her talent to the world as she is preparing for yet another project that will make its debut early next year.

Mabhena said she was working on a single that is a special dedication to God for the wonderful things he has done for her.

“I am releasing a single titled Ndinoda Imimi early next year. I will definitely be shouting about the song till the day of the launch. In the song, I will be communicating with God about the importance of his presence to me and Zimbabwe. We are nothing without Him, and for Zimbabwe to thrive we need Him as our instructor. The future ahead of us is full of thorns and we need God to lead and direct us,” she said.

She said winning Oscar awards showed that people living with disabilities can achieve great things.

“Winning an Oscar was like a dream. I never imagined myself winning an Oscar award, after all it was my first time doing a huge film production. Our band put Zimbabwe on the map when we took centre stage in Los Angeles,” she said.

On her astounding career, Mabhena has toured in different countries which include Mozambique, Sweden, the Netherlands and Belgium and United States of America.

The former member of the Liyana ensemble, which disbanded in 2015, is one of the few Zimbabwean artistes who got the chance of chatting with American talk show host, Oprah Winfrey.

She has released scintillating albums like Sugar Rhythms, Liyana and Ithemba Lami (gospel solo album).

Mabhena said her career in the arts industry was far from over as she had plenty to offer her beloved fans.

“This won’t be my last project as I want to use the gift that God has given me. I am very determined to continue working hard with the hope of impressing fans as well as bagging awards. People should not limit themselves but should always be adventurous. They should think positively and believe that someday they will live the life of their dreams,” she said.  — @NcubeBhekumuzi

Silethemba and Sphephiso Magonya

Langalakhe Mabena, Sunday News Reporter
WHEN Nkululeko Dube decided to retire early from his teaching career where he practiced as an English teacher and Drama club patron at Mpopoma High School in 2001, the much celebrated arts practitioner decided to venture full time into arts hence giving birth to his self titled “Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts” (Iyasa) that same year.

Using the few students he mentored at his former school, one of the young students who followed their shepherd as the founding members of the most world touring group Zimbabwe has ever seen were the two look alike sisters Silethemba and Sphephiso Magonya.

They hailed from the dusty streets of Njube high density suburb at B Square near the famous Sidudla beer Garden located just a stone’s throw from the first black African school in the City of Kings and Queens, Mpopoma High.

Born and raised by Liberation War Veteran father Bizo Magonya, a famous man in Njube, it first became hard for the two sisters to follow their dreams and become celebrated artistes they are today as their father didn’t tolerate the fact that they wanted to become “dancers”.

The younger sister, Siphephiso also known as “Pepsie” in the arts industry, was the lead actress of all time at Mpopoma high whilst her sister Silethemba “Tipsey” was a lead singer who laid smooth vocals for the school choir.

As arts are a combination of musical, dance and acting creativity, Dube saw it fit that he also conscripts students from the school choir to join the multi award winning arts ensemble and Silethemba was the first to ring in his head hence leading to her bonding with her sister at the newly formed Iyasa.

Iyasa, rich with raw talents of the Magonya sisters amongst them with Future Sibanda who is now based in Austria, the Queen of dance Sandra Ndebele, and celebrated Zimbabwean songstress export Nomathemba “Nkwali” Mkhwananzi, the group was privileged to start touring the world at its infant stage.

Silethemba who is now based in France studying towards a Diploma in Creative Arts, revealed how joyful she was the first time she boarded in an airplane.

“I remember we made our first international debut in 2003 and our first stop was in United Kingdom’s Birmingham. What I enjoyed the most is we were fresh from Secondary School and started touring as a family as most of the Iyasa’s founding members we learnt together,” said Silethemba.

As Iyasa toured the world performing in prestigious European events attracting thousands of fans in countries like Finland, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Switzerland, Estonia and Lithuania, to mention a few, it came a surprise to the Magonya family as Siphephiso scooped one of Zimbabwe’s most prestigious National Arts Merit Award (Nama) as she became the Outstanding Female Dancer in 2013.

Pepsie, who is now based in Australia where she is teaching African Contemporary Dance at a private school, reveals how enthusiastic she was when she won the Nama award.

“I was surprised when I won the award as I was contesting with one of Zimbabwe’s best female dancers like Loveness Mambakwa and Melany Caruthers. That award made me believe God is there in my life because I didn’t see it coming,” she said.

Not only the Magonya sisters toured the world with Iyasa, the talent they possessed also landed them a contract in one of the most Africa’s creative art project “Mother Africa” which comprised of artistes from nine countries in Africa including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Senegal, Tanzania and Malawi, to mention a few.

Dube the founder of Iyasa recalls when he saw his graduates Tipsie, Pepsie and Nkwali appearing on Hollywood billboards as part of the Mother Africa cast.

“Iyasa is a school of art therefore we graduate students if we see they are now able to manage their solo careers. When I saw the Magonya sisters and Nkwali in Hollywood’s billboards, I was over the moon because it was a proof enough to show our graduates were ready to take over the world and represent our school,” he said.

Despite their success, the two sisters still regard themselves as part of Iyasa even though they are now fully focused on their solo careers. Dube stated that whenever they happen to be in the country they always come and help Iyasa in rehearsals hence inspiring the new crop of the arts ensemble.

“What I like about them is that if they are in the country, they come back home and help the current youngsters about art and have sessions where they teach them to be life responsible,” said Nkululeko.

With all the work they have made as founding members of Iyasa and representing the country in the world, the Magonya sisters have left a foot print in Zimbabwean arts and culture industry. They surely deserve to be part of Iyasa’s Hall of Fame.

Rutendo Chidawanyika

SURE, a little black dress or Le Smoking suit is always on par for the party scene, but who says holiday dressing has to be so cut and dry? From velvet suits to silky slip dresses, here are basic ideas for switching it up and looking festive this season.

Gold Rush: Metallics act as the ultimate neutral on the holiday party circuit. Take the hue to new heights with a pair of silky, wide-leg gold pants styled with a sheer metallic blouse à la Issa Rae.

Naughty or Nice?: Take note from Olivia Palermo and mix a sheer metallic top with a deep burgundy skirt. Add an unexpected twist to the look with a shade of deep blue or green lipstick.

Sequin dress and instead work the festive beads into your look with one statement-making piece like Solange’s pants, Nicole Richie’s sleeves, or Sara Foster’s skirt. Gabrielle Union’s off-the-shoulder tuxedo dress sets the bar high for your office’s holiday cocktail party. Go for green in a festive but sexy wrap dress that leaves way for some major accessorizing.

While you can never go wrong with a classic little black dress, give the staple wardrobe item a refresh with some feather or sheer detailing as spotted on Hailey Baldwin, Jourdan Dunn, and Kate Bosworth.

A deep red silk dress feels equal parts sexy and festive for any party this season. Hailey Baldwin takes the look to the next level with a pair of matching lace-up heels.

Take fall and winter’s floral trend into the holiday season with a full-length frock that’s timeless and festive in its own right.

Trade in your classic Le Smoking for a suit done in all velvet. Take the look the festive route by opting for a deep red or green color like Cindy Kimberly and Cate Blanchett or keep it sleek and sexy in all-black as seen on Zendaya.

From your Christmas parties to New Year’s Eve, a full-on sequin dress instantly becomes the life of any party.

A shade of deep merlot still feels festive without straying too far from your go-to black uniform.

Pair a lace blouse with a leather mini skirt for the ultimate naughty-meets-nice contrast.

And when all else fails, go bold or go home in a sizzling red sequin look. If you’re not on Naomi Campbell’s level of rocking a full-length gown, opt for a short cocktail version of the look. — Online

Langalakhe Mabena
WITH Bulawayo already in the festive craze mode, party and tribal house music fanatics are yet to be treated to a classy all black event as South Africa’s world touring group Black Motion are set to shut down the Cosmopolitan Club with their polished Urban-African stage movements on 20 December.

Black Motion who always dedicate a show annually for their loyal Bulawayo fans, will this year have to put more charisma to their stage piece, as the Imali hit-makers have to surpass their fellow countrymen Qgom group, Distruction Boys who have since charmed many locals with their skills on the decks.

Unlike the duo of Distruction Boys whose strength is vested on mixing only, Black Motion already have an upper hand in as far as stage performance is concerned.

With DJ Murder taking care of the decks with his mind blowing mixing skills, Smol will compliment his wheel spinner as he will be playing African drums which the group claims are “special native drums” collected from each country they visit, hence giving people a nice stage piece.

The group which rose to fame after releasing Banane Mavoko song in 2010 while they were still part of Kalawa Jazmee, might have only one weakness at the night of the show as they didn’t release any offering this year. However, with their last year’s all-hit track album, Ya Badimo, Black Motion might perform songs from the album and mix them with other artiste’s songs especially those of Distruction Boys like Omunye.

Mduduzi Mdlongwa who is one of the 3D Events organisers said Black Motion will arrive at Joshua Mqabuko Airport at the day of the show at 12pm.

He also said the venue of this year’s show was strategic as they considered many factors which include security and weather elements amongst others.

“Black Motion will arrive at the Joshua Nkomo International Airport on 20 December around 12pm. We have managed to accommodate their fans as we will have a meet and greet occasion at the airport, they will also be signing autographs,” said Mduduzi.

“This year we chose to host the show at Cosmopolitan Club because we are trying to rectify different factors that almost flopped last year’s show like security and violence. As it is a rainy season, we are bound not to have problems because the venue is secure,” he said.

Distruction boys have already earned their stripes with two shows which were hosted at Club Connect this year, Black Motion has to prove a point with only one show. Let the Bulawayo citizens judge who are the best.

Makhosi Tshuma

Makhosi Tshuma

Kudzai Mpangi, Sunday Life Reporter
HAVING started as a mere machinist at a clothing factory in Bulawayo, Makhosi Tshuma, South Africa-based fashion designer lives to tell a different story. He has become a household name in the fashion industry both in South Africa and back home.

Tshuma never thought he would live to tell the tale of his life given his background which was not rosy as they struggled to make ends meet.

Despite his background it did not stop him from fulfilling his dreams and aspirations as he remained focused until he succeeded.

“Coming from a poor family where we struggled to make ends meet from my father’s little salary as he was a general hand, I got the urge to change things around and achieve in life. When I left school I worked for nine years in two clothing factories in Bulawayo, where I was developed from an ordinary machinist into a tailor between 1995 and 2004,” Tshuma said.

The knowledge that he got from being a tailor gave him a purpose to strive for excellence to establish his own fashion label.

“I had to move to South Africa given the economic situation in 2005. I then established my own label Ezase Kasi which is translated to township style as it is aimed mostly at the youths so as to appeal to them. It is in honour of my upbringing, which was mainly in high density suburbs of Bulawayo,” he said.

He described himself as more talented and passionate when it comes to fashion since he does any kind of design that his customers need for a suitable dress code.

“I believe that fashion is in my blood despite dedicating my designs to youths. I can design for new born babies to old age. I design anything from sportswear to overalls and work suits,” Tshuma said.

His nine-year-old label has been a hit both in Bulawayo and Johannesburg as the youths love his designer clothes which appeal mostly to them.

“My label has always appealed to the youths back home and in South Africa because they can relate to the clothing label and this has made me to have the drive to keep on doing more of the designs. I appreciate the way they have responded to my designs and I cannot lie as it is doing so well,” he said.

Tshuma has showcased his designs in Soweto Fashion Show one of the top designer shows in South Africa.

“I have been invited to Soweto Fashion Show many times to showcase my designs. This has been a great opportunity for me, especially as a foreigner. I hope to take my designs to bigger shows as well,” he said.

“I have offered my services to Madlela Sikhobokhobo back home, Patricia Majalisa, Thabbz and I have maintained the relationship.”

Despite enjoying his time in the sun, Tshuma aims to leave a lasting legacy that will see him on the international market.

“My vision is to see this label becoming the commanding fashion voice with the youth and I am working hard in achieving that. I also want my children and their offspring to look back one day and say, this is a legacy left to us by someone who struggled to have what we now live on,” he said.

“I want to spread it throughout the Southern African region and the continent at large so my designs will have a greater impact.”

Tshuma hopes to establish his retail business in Zimbabwe before venturing into the continent.

Meanwhile, his customers back at home order from his Facebook page.

Plumtree inyanga claims to possess powerful fertility herbs

Peter Matika, Senior Life Reporter
ECCENTRICITY would best describe a self-proclaimed traditional healer from Mangwe District, whose claim to fame is fertility herbs and love potions.

At age 62, Luke Ndlovu says he ventured into the trade in 2011, where he mainly focused on sexual dysfunctions in both men and women.

He paid a visit to Sunday News offices recently with his bag of herbs, where he narrated his tale.

“I have healed many people. Many are in the police force and they are grateful of my herbs,” said Ndlovu.

“The herbs are taken in courses, the first line cleans ones’ system; the second one is for boosting and strengthening ones’ sexual prowess. The third helps to boost fertility and the fourth is for boosting those that are absolutely infertile. They take the herbs for six months and I can boldly guarantee that a baby will be conceived soon after,” said Ndlovu.

He said the herbs worked wonders if taken with traditional foods and not fast foods, which he said slowed the process.

“I find my herbs in my area, with the blessing of the Zimbabwe Traditional Healers Association (Zinatha). The organisation only allows us to look for herbs for a short period, which is from May to September. That is the period when the herbs are least potent and safe for human consumption,” said Ndlovu.

He said he derived his healing powers and knowledge from his ancestors, from both his father and mother’s side.

“I am very flexible, I don’t operate from one location but travel a lot. That is what my ancestors told me,” he said.

Ndlovu also claimed that he had herbs and trinkets that could be used to turn a sour marriage blissful.

“I can also wash away bad luck, help one find love, help people find jobs among many issues,” he said.

Ndlovu also said he had found a method in which he could “unlock” men or women, who would have been cursed by their partners.

He said his fertility herbs could produce results within three and six months.

“I have even assisted medical doctors who could not conceive, through scientific methods,” he declared.

The need for sexual enhancing products and herbs has grown over the past years, with an array of traditional healers sprouting across the country, each claiming to have herbs that can boost sexual prowess and libido.

This has also seen the influx of foreign traditional healers, who are seen as mere opportunists to make easy money from members of the public.

Sex

Hi Sis Noe
I DON’T know what is wrong with me but since I started having sex I have never had an orgasm. I am a healthy woman aged 30. What is wrong with me? — Worried.

Reply
There are many reasons why many women fail to have an orgasm but I have discovered that in most cases women fail to have an orgasm because they put too much pressure on themselves. If you are lying there nervous or tired or feeling uncomfortable about how much time has passed with you still not having had an orgasm, you are creating a vicious cycle of no orgasms. The pressure to have an orgasm can result in everyone being stressed out and not climaxing. Not ideal. Try not to think about it and just enjoy the sensations instead.

You will come when you least expect it. It might also be the medication you are using. Medications can diminish sex hormones in the body, and often lead to having crappy orgasms or no orgasms at all. So if the sex is actually good and it’s just not happening for you that could be why. Talk to your doctor and see if there is another medication with fewer sexual side effects that you could be taking. It might be that your man doesn’t know what he is doing. Lasting 30 minutes to an hour does not make your man a good lover. For most women, orgasm does not come from penetration alone. Tell your man to stop his jack-hammer method. He should stimulate your clitoris with his hand or his tongue. Adequate foreplay leads to an orgasm. The problem could be you. Maybe you have no idea what works for you.

You need to figure out what turns you on. You are getting turned on but not enough, the problem could be lack of enough lubrication. About 40 percent of women do not produce enough lubrication during sex. Even if your vagina gets wet, sometimes the chemistry of condoms, hormones, and emotions can throw that off and leave you dry. Just adding lubricant is an easy way to make you feel more comfortable and orgasm-ready. Lastly the problem may be medical — it is possible to have things like clitoral entrapment, which is when the clitoris literally gets trapped under the clitoral hood skin, making it less sensitive. If you are having significant trouble having an orgasm, go to a gynaecologist to make sure nothing like that is going on.

Hi Sis Noe
My boyfriend and I were going to have sex for the first time the other day. It was my first time but he has done it before. I was not nervous or anything but he couldn’t get in at all. Why did this happen? — Worried.

Reply
You need to be relaxed and before your boyfriend tries to enter you, it is good to start by having foreplay, like touching, kissing, masturbating each other or having oral sex. All of these things help you to feel excited. Some positions might be easier than others too if you experiment with different positions, don’t keep trying one if it’s a painful one. It is also possible that your hymen has not stretched yet and this is why you have not been able to have sex.

It may also be because of tight vaginal muscles in response to sex. This is called vaginismus: an involuntary spasm of vaginal muscles. It sometimes happens when a person is feeling worried about having sex, is not really sure if it’s the right thing to do, or is worried about the risk of pregnancy. If you can’t insert a finger or tampon in your vagina it would be a good idea to see a doctor and have an examination and find out if there is any hymen there or if there is another cause, such as vaginismus. The best place to try would be a family planning or sexual health clinic, but any doctor you feel comfortable with would be fine. If you are thinking about having sex, you also need to think about protecting yourself from STIs and unwanted pregnancy.

Hi Sis Noe
I don’t know what is wrong with me. I have never enjoyed sex and I don’t feel a thing. Am I normal? — Worried.

Reply
Sexual experiences reflect the connection of the mind and the body. What goes on in the mind is affected not only by what is going on sexually and non-sexually between the partners, but by everything that has gone on in a woman’s life. Sometimes even experiences from childhood can be relevant. This means that what you feel when your body is being stimulated by your partner depends not only on the partner’s skill, gentleness, care and ability to be guided by your needs, but also by what is going on in your mind. Is your mind settled? Were you once raped? Were you raised by parents who taught you that sex is bad? All these and more could be the reason you don’t enjoy sex. Go to the doctor to find out what’s wrong with you.

Hi Sis Noe
I am in love with my first cousin but I want to know whether it is really wrong to be with her? I want to marry her but we are afraid people will not understand. — Help.

Reply
By my understanding a first cousin is the daughter or son of an uncle or aunt. To your question — negative reactions to cousins who pair off stem largely from the belief that children from such relationships may have physical and/or mental abnormalities. Newborns with genetic disorders such as spina bifida or cystic fibrosis are more likely to be born of blood relatives because previously unexpressed recessive genes are more likely to appear.

First cousins are two times more likely to bear offspring with a birth defect than children born of couples who don’t share a common grandparent. If cousin couples happen to be carrying known genetic diseases, the risks faced by their offspring can be high. Legally it is a crime to date and to have sex with your first cousin so if you are discovered you might go to jail. Morally it’s taboo to be with your first cousin, society will frown upon your relationship. You are in an ugly relationship, get out of it now.

Hi Sis Noe
I was drunk and I had a one-night stand at a party with this handsome guy. The problem I have now is that I am stressed that he did not ask for my number. I feel used and cheap. Is it normal to feel this way? — Worried.

Reply
Unfortunately, no strings attached doesn’t always equate to no feelings attached. Whether you feel sad, confused, or even empowered, it is perfectly normal to have different emotions after a one-night stand. You may find that engaging in casual sex is not positive for your emotional health. Some people feel that sex is more meaningful or enjoyable if it is with a partner that they are emotionally invested with. Some don’t feel that way. We are different. Self-reflection is key to sorting out your emotions. Asking yourself some important questions can help you move forward. For example, what kind of relationship would you like to have with romantic partners? What role do you think casual sex will play for you in the future? These questions may help you better understand the pros and cons of different sexual situations you may encounter in the future. If the days are flying by and your feelings still linger, remember that sorting out your emotions may take some time. By treating yourself to some quality thinking time, exploring your emotions, and being patient, you can feel confident and balanced again.

Stella Chiweshe

Bhekumuzi Ncube, Sunday Life Reporter
THE concept of globalisation has left traditional genres in danger of extinction as cultural diversity has brought in exotic genres that are seemingly taking over and dominating the music market in Africa.

Zimbabwe is one country with a rich history of traditional music genres that have been widely ignored by budding artistes who seem to be more interested in modern genres like Hip Hop, RnB, Pop and Jazz.

Despite globalisation pressures, there are renowned artistes who have stood strong by continuingly remaining true to their beautiful culture and have made sure they help protect it using their talents.

Among them is the sensational Mbira queen, Stella Rambisai Chiweshe who has undeniable changed the face of Mbira by making the world play the beautiful instrument.

Mbira is one type of music which dominated radio stations in the early of Zimbabwe’s independence days but has been dumped by youths who believe the traditional instrument is now backward and outdated.

Born in Mhondoro in 1946, Ambuya Chiweshe as she is popularly known on stage grew to become one of the Mbira queens who have facilitated the spread of the genre to the world. It is strongly believed that the Mbira sensation played the beautiful instrument despite the colonial constraints that prevented people from doing such cultural activities particularly women. Years ago she addressed the Press on the struggles she faced when she wanted to play mbira.

“There was no one to teach me at that time. Mbira makers refused to make me my own personal mbira while some of them did not even take me seriously. Women were strongly looked down upon,” she said.

Her determination and resistance against colonial challenges led her to record her first single called Kasahwa with Teal Record Company which complete raised eyebrows among locals.

The singer has now over 10 albums to her name which have often been well received by fans globally. Her top albums include Ambuya, Ndizvozvo, and double check and Healing Tree: Best of Stella Chiweshe. She once praised mbira as something that was very divine and connected people with their ancestors when she was being interviewed by the Press.

“The mbira touches the souls of human beings, animals and trees, this is why this instrument is very magical,” she said.

Despite continued globalisation pressures which continue to engulf African cultures, Ambuya Chiweshe has continued championing traditional culture through her Mbira music. Her last single came last year when she celebrated her 50 years in the music industry.

Zimbabweans who have migrated to Western countries have usually came back home to view their own traditions with contempt. However, with Ambuya Chiweshe that has not been the case; the talented mbira muso has been living in Germany for quite some time but that has not prevented her from returning home to grace her home fans with new mbira songs.

Ambuya Chiweshe is one women who has undeniable reinforced the recognition of mbira music to the world by touring in different counties that includes Mozambique, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, India, China and Korea.

She has been involved in massive traditional events in a bid to enlighten the youths to value their origins with honour and respect. These events include that glamming 2011 concert to honour the earth which featured 18 mbira singers and traditional gathering at Dande.

Her popularity across the world was recognised when she was named the Zimbabwe Culture ambassador in 2006.

As if singing was not enough, Ambuya Chiweshe became a mbira teacher in 2012 at a global music academy in Germany which depicted her love for the genre and desire to spread the beautiful Zimbabwean culture to the world.

She has made sure that mbira will forever be recognised in a global village for thousand years to come as her splendid work is well stored in modern facilities.

THERE are actors who always make immediate impact when they step on stage, spicing up things with their facial expressions, body language and their on-point costumes that draws the audience into their world and leave them on the edge of their seats.

They are such good artistes who are able to show strong emotions by putting themselves in the shoes of their characters that helps their story line making it scintillating and convincing.

Zimbabwe`s own Ernest Posa Ndlovu is one sensational actor who is living a blissful life of his dreams because of his tremendous talent of being such a dandy actor.

Famed for his villainous role on the popular South African drama series Isibaya, Ndlovu is one thriving sensational actor from Zimbabwe who when called to swim on the Isibaya waters, he made sure he swam like a gold medalist.

On his early days at Isibaya, Ndlovu made an immediate impact with his role as Ngwebedla who schemed with other villains to topple the chief of Bhubesini. He has become a popular character with his distinguished walk and straw-hat.

His character has really raised eyebrows and reinforced his professionalism as an actor. Villains in movies, dramas and soaps are the most hated people from the heterogeneous audience, but with Ndlovu`s role as Ngwebedla, he has become a darling of the public.

It his professionalism and creativity with other South African renowned artistes that have seen Isibaya scoop countless drama gongs.

His dedication to acting has left thousands convinced that the sensational actor is a real conniving and trickster individual in real life.

However, his long time work mate at renowned Umakorokoza drama that once dazzled our local television screens, Sarah Mpofu has vehemently defended the talented superstar.

She said Ngwebedla we have grown to know day by day on our silver screens is far from the real Ndlovu.

“It’s normal for people to think that Ndlovu`s role as Ngwebedla in Isibaya mirrored his real life persona but that is not true. Our job as actors is to make sure that we play our roles convincingly to make the story original. It’s a failure when the audience can tell that a person is acting on stage. The fact that fans assumes Ndlovu is a real life crook depicts his experience in acting. He is an amazing actor who always outdoes his role in a project,” she said.

Perhaps because of his down to earth status, few people did not acknowledge that the mesmerizing actor was a Zimbabwean when he first appeared on the Mzansi Magic royalty soap. However, Ndlovu has really won public support and is now a popular figure in both South Africa and Zimbabwe.

To those who thought that Ndlovu has only featured in Isibaya they better think again. Born in Tsholotsho, the highflying actor has featured in countless plays which include the popular 1997 classic that starred American stars Ice Cube as Vusi Madlazi and Ving Rhames as Muki.

The movie titled Dangerous Ground saw Ndlovu took a chilling role of being Muki`s man who was a crime lord. The classic crime action African blockbuster was about a former student activist who, after 15 years of exile, returned to a post-apartheid South Africa in order to find his missing brother.

At his beautiful home nation, Ndlovu played a role in one of the successful Zimbabwean dramas, Amakorokoza which was directed by the City of Kings` celebrated artiste, Cont Mhlanga the founder of Amakhosi Theatre.

Mpofu described the talented Ndlovu as someone with vast experience who is always ready to show his support to everyone in arts.

“On my time working with Ndlovu, I got to know him as a down to earth person that is the reason few people know him. He is not a person who will go bragging about his popularity and achievements. With Ernest, unless you have watched his productions or someone tells you who he is, you can never know he is a celebrity. He treats himself as an ordinary person ready to help when needed. He is very professional in that he works hard and thoroughly at his character requirements and will not shy away on offering support to other actors,” she said.

His move to South Africa has been one successful journey of his blistering arts career. Ndlovu has featured in highly rated South African soaps which include SABC1`s Generations and Inkaba.

Other South African drama series he featured include Charlie Jade, Izingani zo Baba, Egoli, African Skies, Going Up, Tarzan: The Epic Adventures, Justice for All, Home Affairs, Sokhulu and Parners, Angel, Okavango, Rhodes, Soul City, Madam and Eve and Crusoe.

The list of plays Ndlovu has been involved in portrays his love for arts and his vast experience when it comes to owning the stage. Mpofu said Ndlovu was a Zimbabwean icon to whom many youths should learn many things.

“He is undoubtedly one of the actors who have raised the Zimbabwean flag high. He has done spectacular things which none of us have achieved.

Working with American greats like Ice Cube and Ving Rhames is something special and cannot go unnoticed. He is a living proof to the youths that arts is not a joke but a profession which they can take seriously for the betterment of their future lives. I am very much positive that they can learn many things from Ndlovu,” she said.

Ndlovu has also featured in various South African films such as Primeval, Dark City, Rutanga Tapes, The Fourth Reich, A Dry White Season, The Endangered, Ipi Tombi, Beat the Drum, I Dreamed of Africa, African Story, Whiskey Echo and Lethal Force.

Mpofu said she was looking forward working with Ndlovu again in the future.

“It will be an honour if I get the chance of working with Ndlovu in the future. I will gain so much from his experience and support if we work on other projects. Its every artiste`s dream to work side by side with artistes who have been in the arts industry for decades and are still booming with success,” she said.

Ndlovu`s tremendous work abroad saw him being a nominee at this year`s Bulawayo Arts Awards on the Outstanding Ambassador category in which he faced a stiff competition from Kwaito star, Oskido. — @NcubeBhekumuzi
