“They laugh at me because I am different, I laugh at them because they are all the same.”
This line was first introduced to us by our seventh grade teacher during our class’ farewell party, after we had finished writing our grade seven examinations back then.
He told us; “You have something special inside you, a rare kind of light that is supposed to shine in its own way.
This light is not really understood by people and sometimes it becomes a subject of mockery, insult, or even shunning by peers, especially those who have not discovered their own lights.
Sadly, so many people extinguish their lights, because they fear to be different — they fear to be ridiculed and to be shut off by friends. But all that is not as important as shining your light. Next time they laugh at you, laugh at them instead.”
Over the years I have had the privilege of working with so many people of different backgrounds and characters. I have noticed that people who ridicule, insult or fight those pursuing their goals are the people who have not discovered their own unique lights or have since extinguished them. As a result, they become uncomfortable in seeing the same kind of light in others. These people simply represents negative forces which thrives in darkness and do not want to see any kind of light for it threatens the darkness’ existence. If you carry such light, you are inevitably attacked.
As a result of such attacks, you may have decided to switch off your light. Maybe you doubt there was even a light in you in the first place. Today I want to remind you that you indeed have a light! It was embedded in you at creation. The Word of God tell us how in creating us God employed all His majestic, extraordinary and unexplainable expertise, adequately equipping you for a purpose! You have got special talents within you which tally with the dreams inside your heart. You may not know of these talents yet, but simply having a dream is proof enough that there is means within you to fulfil it. That is the light you carry inside you — your own special kind of light and through it, you are unique.
And now as you work on your light, you won’t likely get it right the first time. You may make mistakes — even several ones. You may fail or stagger, causing some people to ridicule you. In my opinion it is okay for them to do that because they don’t know you — they are not the ones who created you. The One who did never laughs at you. He knows you perfectly well and trusts that you will be able to put the adequate equipment in you to use so that you achieve your great destiny.
I strongly recommend that you never dim your light for any reason in the world! Stay in alignment with who you truly are. Even when people mock, insult or fight you, stay on the high road, mindful that it is not about other people against you but about negative forces against your light — your purpose.
The only way to deal with them is making your light shine even brighter. This will ensure that darkness is exterminated. If darkness still persists then most probably your light isn’t bright enough. Here is how you can work towards strengthening the intensity of your light.
Train your mind to focus on the good things in your life, no matter how small they may seem.
Identify your dreams and set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals.
Continuously work to develop your abilities and intelligence.
View failures as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as setbacks.
Have a positive mind set and if possible, surround yourself with positive people, and avoid those who bring you down.
Always remember, the unique light you carry is of great importance! Embrace it and work towards brightening up your light like never before!!!
